Sodium Bisulfite 40% Solution is a concentrated aqueous solution of sodium bisulfite (NaHSO₃), widely used as a reducing agent, dechlorination chemical, oxygen scavenger and water-treatment chemical in industrial, marine and process-water applications.

It is supplied as a ready-to-use liquid solution for applications where controlled reduction of oxidizing agents, particularly residual chlorine, is required.

Major Applications

1. RO Water Treatment

Sodium Bisulfite 40% Solution is commonly used in reverse osmosis (RO) pretreatment to remove residual free chlorine before water reaches polyamide RO membranes.

This is important because free chlorine can damage or degrade chlorine-sensitive RO membrane materials.

2. Dechlorination

The product is widely used for reducing residual chlorine in:

  • Potable-water treatment processes

  • Industrial wastewater

  • Process water

  • RO feed water

  • Reclaimed water

  • Chemical treatment systems

3. Oxygen Scavenging

On additon with water Sodium bisulfite releases sulfur dioxide gas, Which is resulting killing yeast, fungus, and bacteria, roughly 24 hours before fermentation, when added to wines.



It may also be added after fermentation to prevent vinegar production and protect the color and flavor of wine. It kills microbes and in fruit canning, prevents browning.



Sodium Bisulfite is also added to leafy green vegetables to preserve visual freshness of the greens. When adding to recipes to prevent oxidation, strive for 0.1% of  weight.
