Application

Applications:

  • Textile bleaching neutralization.

  • Removal of residual oxidizing chlorine.

  • Fabric processing.

  • Dyeing and finishing operations.

  • Protection of fibres from residual chlorine damage.

We process a white crystalline solid, sodium Thio sulphate anhydrous, which is widely used in chemicals and detergents. Our wide range of sodium Thio sulphate is made of qualitative ingredients to ensure safety and effective use at client's end. These are available with us at industry leading prices and are extensively used in industries.

Using Procedure

Recommended Dosage for Dechlorination

Theoretical sodium thiosulphate pentahydrate demand depends on the reaction products and operating conditions.

For a commonly used chlorine-to-chloride reaction producing tetrathionate:

[ 2Na_2S_2O_3 + Cl_2 \rightarrow Na_2S_4O_6 + 2NaCl \]

The theoretical requirement is approximately 7.0 mg of pure Sodium Thiosulphate Pentahydrate per 1 mg of chlorine expressed as Cl₂.

Further oxidation of thiosulphate to sulphate can result in a different stoichiometric requirement. Consequently, the actual operating dose must be established by testing.

6. Preparation of Sodium Thiosulphate Solution

For preparing a 10% w/v solution:

  1. Fill a clean chemical-resistant mixing vessel with approximately 70% of the required final volume of clean water.

  2. Add 100 grams of Sodium Thiosulphate Pentahydrate for each litre of final solution.

  3. Stir until all crystals dissolve.

  4. Add water to reach the final required volume.

  5. Store in a clean, labelled, tightly closed container.

  6. Determine the dosing rate from actual chlorine demand and verify the residual chlorine after mixing.

Avoid contamination with acids and strong oxidizing chemicals.

Note

Industrial Applications

A. Water Treatment and Dechlorination

Sodium Thiosulphate Pentahydrate is widely used to remove residual free chlorine from water.

Applications include:

  • Municipal and industrial water treatment.

  • Neutralization of chlorinated wastewater before discharge.

  • Swimming pool dechlorination.

  • Aquarium and aquaculture water preparation.

  • Protection of chlorine-sensitive downstream processes.

  • Dechlorination of water used for industrial testing.

The product reacts with free chlorine, converting it into chloride under suitable reaction conditions.

B. Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Treatment

Residual chlorine can damage polyamide RO membranes. Sodium Thiosulphate can be used as a reducing agent for chlorine removal in appropriately designed pretreatment systems.

Benefits:

  • Reduces free chlorine residual.

  • Helps protect chlorine-sensitive membranes.

  • Can support membrane pretreatment operations.

  • Provides an alternative dechlorination chemistry where technically approved.

For continuous RO systems, chemical dosing must be controlled through chlorine monitoring and compatibility assessment.

C. Textile and Dyeing Industry

Sodium Thiosulphate is used as an antichlor agent to remove residual chlorine following bleaching operations.

Sodium thiosulfate (sodium thiosulphate) is an inorganic White crystalline solid compound. Also called Sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate, Disodium thiosulfate pentahydrate.

Also used as General bleaching agents, bleaching agents for textiles. And effectively used for cleaning/washing, including cleaning products used in the home, laundry detergents, soaps, de-greasers, spot removers, drycleaning, laundry, soap, window/floor cleaning etc.

D. Pulp and Paper Industry

Used in selected pulp and paper operations for neutralizing residual chlorine-based bleaching chemicals.

It helps prevent unwanted reactions caused by residual oxidants during subsequent processing stages.

E. Photographic Processing

Sodium Thiosulphate is a traditional photographic fixing agent.

It dissolves unexposed silver halides from photographic films and papers by forming soluble silver-thiosulphate complexes.

Applications:

  • Black-and-white photographic fixing.

  • Photographic paper processing.

  • Film development chemicals.

  • Silver recovery operations.

F. Chemical Manufacturing

Sodium Thiosulphate is used as a reducing agent and intermediate in selected industrial chemical processes.

Applications include oxidant neutralization, chemical synthesis and controlled redox reactions.

G. Laboratory and Analytical Applications

Sodium Thiosulphate is extensively used in iodometric titration methods.

Applications include:

  • Determination of available chlorine.

  • Iodine titration.

  • Oxidizing agent analysis.

  • Chemical quality control.

  • Water testing laboratories.

H. Mining and Precious Metal Processing

Sodium Thiosulphate is used in specialized gold and silver leaching processes as a complexing agent.

These processes require carefully controlled chemistry and are not interchangeable with conventional cyanide leaching methods.
